  1. This readme file is for version 2.0 of SFPtoPK

  3. SFPtoPK is a free utility from Small Planet Software.  SFPtoPK converts HP
  4. LaserJet softfont files into TeX fonts.  SFPtoPK is an MS-DOS program.

  10.     - Added support for HP AutoFont files

  12. Features in brief:

  14.   - Converts softfonts directly into PK files (allowing up to 256 chars/font)
  15.   - /map option to move characters from anywhere in the softfont to standard
  16.     TeX positions (this is especially useful for ligatures and accents).
  17.   - /lig option to automatically build ligatures into the TeX font
  18.   - Supports HP AutoFont Support metrics files
  19.   - Supports a flexible kerning algorithm
  20.   - Options for ``stealing'' accents off of accented characters -- even
  21.     baseline accents like the cydil.
  22.   - Similar options for stripping accents *off* of characters -- useful to
  23.     produce the undotted i's and j's if nothing else.
  24.   - Can calculate the size of an interword space mathmatically (based upon
  25.     functions derived from the CM family of fonts)
  26.   - Can dynamically adjust the size of an interword space
  27.   - Can dynamically adjust the x-height
  28.   - Can calculate the appropriate slant value for the font
  29.   - Handles class 2 compressed softfont files.
  30.   - Complete documentation provided in a DVI file.
  31.   - Includes a program for creating scaled PK files

  33. Caveats: (Hey, I gotta be fair...)

  35.   - Produces PL files instead of producing TFM files directly -- you need
  36.     the TeXware utility PLtoTF to use the fonts created by SFPtoPK
  37.   - The source code is not available (at present, anyway).
